Tsunami - A Message from Chancellor Carnesale

January 2005

Members of the UCLA Campus Community:

We continue to be shocked and deeply saddened by the devastating effect of the Indian Ocean tsunami, which has claimed more than150,000 lives and left millions of people injured and homeless. We feel this overwhelming loss. UCLA has many ties to this region of the world, and we want to provide whatever aid and expertise we can.

Attempts are being made to locate and contact members of the UCLA family who may have been directly affected by this tragedy. In addition, UCLA scholars from a number of fields are helping to shed light on what happened and to alleviate the suffering.

I urge you to lend any assistance you can through the relief efforts that are underway. Many of those efforts can be accessed through the links at left, which also provide information on seminars and other resources at UCLA that may help us to understand and deal with this horrific humanitarian crisis.

Sincerely,

Albert Carnesale
Chancellor
