"For his contributions to partial differential equations, combinatorics,
harmonic analysis and additive number theory . . ." [Fields Medal Citation]
Terence Tao joined the UCLA faculty in 1996, when he was only 20 years old. He became a full professor of mathematics at age 24. In 2006 he became the first UCLA faculty member and the first Australian to win the Fields Medal. His many honors include a Macarthur fellowship (2006) and the Alan T. Waterman Award (2008).
