About UCLA

When your child steps foot on campus, he or she will be a part of something unique among higher education. Not only are they amid the most academically elite in the country, they're also attending one of the highest ranked universities nationally and internationally—one that has gained a reputation for setting its sights higher and delivering.

Whether it's our 11 Nobel Laureates or our 230 Olympic medals; being the birthplace of the Internet or the home of the most NCAA titles—this is where excellence happens. And it happens across the board. Unlike most schools that usually strive for a handful of things, UCLA strives for just about everything. Though we haven't been in existence for a century, in that time we've produced leaders, icons or institutions in just about every field. Medicine: Ronald Regan Hospital consistently ranked in the top five and Time "Man of the Year" Dr. David Ho. Law: Johnny Cochran and Robert Shapiro. Economics: Nobel Prize Winner Elinor Ostrom. Entertainment: Francis Ford Coppola, James Franco, Carol Burnett. Mathematics: A Fields Medal. Chemistry: A Centenary Prize. Research: Over 500 active licensed inventions. Athletics: Jackie Robinson, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. As you can see, UCLA doesn't have trouble naming accomplishments, we have trouble fitting all the names and accomplishments we want into a list, because there are many, many more.

Academics

For every aspiration, we have a means.

Over 5,000 courses in 109 academic departments create 130 majors to define your child's academic path. The rigors are intense. The faculty is the foremost expert. And there are countless opportunities for research, community outreach and connecting with major players in almost any field. Whether your child want to change a life, a generation or the whole world, think what they can do with the resources only UCLA can provide.

Faculty

We are 4,000 in number.

We are Nobel Prize winners. We are Fields Medal recipients and Fulbright scholars. We are leading researchers and world-renowned authorities in just about every field of study. We are obscenely passionate individuals that are driven to effect real change in the world.

But most importantly—we are here for your child.

Campus Life

With palm trees, tennis courts, outdoor swimming pools and breathtaking vistas, you might think you're at a resort. While the campus is beautiful, this will not be your child's most lasting impression.

What will stay with them, inspire them and help shape the person they will become comes from living it.

Here, getting a worldview can come from looking out a dorm window. That's because UCLA is a uniquely diverse environment. Like the city it is set in, it is alive with a wealth of cultures, ethnicities, perspectives and experiences. Your child is not in a bubble of academia. Your child is a part of a global community—where one minute he or she is signing up for one of over 800 student-run clubs, and the next, trying Peruvian food with friends. They're crossing paths with thought leaders and entertainment moguls. They have a ticket to shows, events and exhibitions most cities can't attract.

At UCLA, every day offers a new opportunity, experience or life-shaping event.

Housing

Living here is part of the UCLA experience. All of the residence halls are within a couple minutes walk of each other—with classes not much farther than that. Your child is connected to campus, giving them every outlet and opportunity to find his or her niche at UCLA. It is vibrant, exciting and unforgettable.

Perhaps that is why over 94 percent of freshman live on campus. Continue to Housing.

Value

As a student, your child is part of one of the most vibrant, influential institutions in the nation. There are over 400,000 UCLA living alumni—with one in every 140 Californians being a Bruin. Yet, it is not the sheer quantity of alumni that will benefit your child. As the most applied-to university in the country, with an average GPA of 4.34 and a SAT composite score of 2026 for admitted students, being a Bruin means they are among the very best. This creates a network and connections that reach just about every field at the highest level.

While your child is here, they have access to unmatched resources and opportunities. They do actual publishable research. They engage, converse and work with some of the foremost experts in the world. They gain the knowledge, tools and connections few universities can offer, and therefore, go on to do things few others can do.

It's an environment that produces graduates well equipped to engage with the world and define how they impact it. That's why 40,000 global and domestic businesses and non-profits actively recruit within the UCLA Career Center and UCLA students boast a 90 percent graduation rate with 87 percent going on to attend graduate or professional school.

Financial Aid

The majority of students, 82 percent in fact, receive some sort of financial aid.

And with few universities of UCLA's caliber having a higher percentage of students who receive a Pell Grants, we clearly put a far greater value on student's abilities than their means.

If your child has the drive, we have the resources. Continue to Financial Aid.
