D’Artagnan Scorza

Class of 2007, Ph.D. 2013

D’Artagnan Scorza is a man of many dimensions. While an undergraduate student at UCLA, he became a member of the UC Regents, the university’s governing board. A decorated U.S. Navy veteran, he is also a scholar with a Ph.D. in education. And in Inglewood, California, he’s a home-town hero. Through his nonprofit Social Justice Learning Institute, he has led the effort to establish community gardens, a farmer’s market and healthy lifestyle centers and is mentoring young men in the community. Elected to the Inglewood Board of Education in 2015, he chaired Measure GG to secure $90 million in school improvement bonds. When the UCLA Alumni Association recognized Scorza with the 2016 Recent Graduate Achievement Award, they put it this way: “In a relatively short period of time, his academic and teaching accomplishments, and his exceptional service . . . can already be considered achievements of a lifetime.”
